The Donor Who Wanted Proof, Not Promises
An anonymized WASH verification engagement covering 40 borehole sites, field evidence, community interviews and donor-ready reporting.
Representational imageThe Challenge
An international NGO had completed a WASH programme that installed 40 boreholes across rural communities in North-Central Nigeria. A European foundation required independent verification before releasing the final tranche of funding. The NGO's monitoring team had collected data, but the donor wanted an external party to confirm that each borehole existed, was functional and was being used by the intended communities.
Our Role
Station 360 was engaged as the independent verification partner: visit every site, document what was found and report honestly. The role was verification, not advocacy.
What We Executed
Over 10 weeks, the field team visited all 40 borehole sites across 12 communities. Each site received GPS capture, geo-tagged photo/video documentation and a functional-status assessment. The team interviewed 62 community members, including water committee members, women's group leaders and local officials, reviewed maintenance records where available and documented issues affecting functionality.
4 boreholes were recorded as non-functional at the time of the visits. The case-study record describes 2 as vandalised, 1 with a faulty pump and 1 without a reliable water-source connection. Each issue was documented with evidence and a corrective-action recommendation.
Locations and Deliverables
40 sites across 12 communities in 3 local government areas. 480 geo-tagged photos. 40 video clips. 62 stakeholder interviews. 1 94-page verification report with site findings, functionality assessment, issue log and recommendations. 1 summary dashboard for donor review.
Outcome
Station 360's supplied anonymized case-study record states that the donor accepted the verification report and released the final tranche; that the NGO used the documentation to address the 4 non-functional boreholes, 3 of which were repaired within 60 days; and that Station 360 was later engaged for additional verification work.
Client Feedback
“Having an independent partner who could verify our work and document it properly made all the difference. The donor trusted the report because it wasn't ours.” Programme Director, International NGO
